Chinese restaurants in the United States range from steam-table lunch counters to white-tablecloth Cantonese seafood halls, and most fall somewhere in between: a laminated menu, a lunch special board, and combo plates priced a few dollars below the dinner menu. Ordering by number off the menu is normal and speeds things up, especially at takeout counters. Family-style ordering, where a table shares several dishes with rice rather than each person getting an individual entree, is standard at sit-down spots and usually cheaper per person. Many neighborhood restaurants are cash-preferred or charge a small card fee, so it is worth asking or checking the door before you order. Delivery apps cover most areas, but calling the restaurant directly is often faster and avoids the markup.

The business lists hours on 2 days of the week. On most of those days it is open 11:30 AM–8 PM. Edison is in New Jersey, in the Northeast, where four distinct seasons shape local life: hot humid summers, snowy winters that can close businesses for a day, and a dense pattern of towns where walking, transit and street parking all matter. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and Edison follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

After two strikes—the first being a disappointing massage and the second discovering that Wow! Cafe in Edison was closed—I was pleasantly surprised by the snacks and meal at HK Alley. HK Alley is a casual, canteen-style spot serving everything from Cantonese-style French toast and boba-inspired drinks to nostalgic cha chaan teng rice and noodle dishes. The menu is fairly small, but it’s efficient and offers a nice variety. The French toast with peanut butter was delicious, although unfortunately, I missed the chance to take a photo of it! We also ordered Combo D, which consisted of a slippery egg with crispy chicken and your choice of drink, and a red bean frappe. Everything was satisfying, and I particularly enjoyed the combination of crispy chicken with the silky egg. Don’t be surprised when the food arrives in takeout containers. I actually find this quite practical—if you can’t finish your meal, it’s already packed and ready to take home. It also makes perfect sense for such a small establishment with a compact kitchen and minimal staff. The only hiccup was with the ordering system. We placed separate orders while sitting at the same table, and unfortunately, one of the ord

Love the combo meal with drink. Self-served style HK cafe. The ventilation needs improvement as the restaurant have very strong smoke, and after dining we left with strong smell… the food is good overall with room for improvement. For the steak with fires, the steak is overcooked. The rib eye steak is delicious, but the pasta with black pepper sauce gets too watery.

I asked my husband to check out this spot after seeing an Instagram reel - the steak looked that good. We ended up ordering the signature XL steak with black pepper sauce, the slippery egg pork chop, and a Hong Kong milk tea. The XL steak was unreal. A full 12-oz cut and truly a bang for your buck. The pasta served with it was perfectly al dente, and the black pepper sauce was so good… very similar to Panda Express’ black pepper chicken sauce (in the best way). I’d probably order my steak medium-rare next time, but flavor-wise, it was excellent! The slippery egg pork chop was also really good. The pork was incredibly moist, with a thin, crunchy crust, and the sauce-to-pork ratio was spot on. Honestly, I’d order extra sauce next time just because the flavor is that good. I do prefer a runnier scrambled egg, and this one leaned more omelette-style, but it was still tasty and worked well with the dish. AND the milk tea oh my gosh. We can’t get enough of it - so so so good!!! This place is absolutely worth the money. We had to grab butter pineapple buns to go before leaving, because how could we not? Definitely coming back. 🤩🤩🤩

Had the opportunity to try their peppered steak and milk bubble tea combo. Highly recommend it; the flavored steak with the linguine underneath tastes so amazing. Far superior to many American restaurants’ pasta entrée. Give it a try when you get the chance. Definitely coming back again!

If you are looking for a true taste of Hong Kong, HK Alley is the real deal. We visited as a family and it immediately took us back home. The food was excellent: the Steak over Rice combo was savory and tender, and the Slippery Egg Chicken had that perfect, silky texture that is so hard to find elsewhere. My mom especially loved the Salted Egg Pineapple Bun, the perfect sweet and salty combo. The Coffee Milk Tea (Yuenyeung) was a highlight; the flavor profile was exactly like what you’d find at a traditional Cha Chaan Teng. My only small note is that the Hot Milk Tea could have been served a bit hotter, but the flavor was still spot on. Being from NYC, my mom was so thrilled to have found a spot like this. This was definitely needed in Edison, NJ. We’re so happy to have found a spot that feels like home!
